The European Union provided five cars for mobile teams on both banks of the Dniester

Today, on 26th of September, with the support of the European Union, the mobile teams from Căuşeni, Ştefan Vodă, ATU Gagauzia, Slobozia and Tiraspol were equipped with new cars. The cars were offered within the framework of the project "Social services for people with disabilities to support confidence-building measures between both banks of the Dniester" funded by the European Union and implemented by Keystone Moldova in partnership with the Ministry of Health, Labour and Social Protection.

 

The above mentioned project envisages the creation and development of six new services (5 mobile teams and a day center) for people with disabilities, as well as, capacity building activities for local public administrations, non-governmental organizations, new created service staff, in order to prevent the institutionalization of people with disabilities and ensure their social inclusion.

 

Thus, during the event, Dr Peter Michalko, European Union Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova and Dr Stela Grigoraş, Minister of Health, Labor and Social Protection, handed the keys of the new cars to the representatives from the local public administrations in the above-mentioned territorial administrative units.

 

"Over the past 5 years, with the support of the European Union, 10 Mobile Teams for People with Disabilities were created. These services focus on improving the quality of life for people with disabilities through counseling, recovery and psychosocial rehabilitation services, in order to increase personal autonomy, prevent institutionalization and ensure social inclusion" mentioned Dr. Stela Grigoraş.

 

"We hope that by offering new cars for mobile teams providing social services for people with disabilities and their families, we will create better working conditions for their activities and this will lead to improved social services for those who need them," underlined His Excellency, Dr Peter Michalko.

 

Therewith, this project encourages the transfer of knowledge and experience in the field of development of social services for people with disabilities, between representatives of communities on both sides of the Dniester, following the final goal of establishing interpersonal and confidence-building relationship.

 

"Due to this project, “Keystone Moldova” has the opportunity to develop partnerships with local governments and non-governmental organizations in ATU Gagauzia and Transnistria, which will contribute to many beautiful initiatives in the field of social inclusion for people with disabilities in the future, said Mrs Ludmila Malcoci, Executive Director of “Keystone Moldova”.

 

The mobile team is a social home care service for people with disabilities and their families from isolated locations with limited access to specialized services. The services provided by the Mobile Team vary according to the needs of the beneficiaries and may include: psychological assistance and counseling, medical and rehabilitation / recovery services (kinetotherapy, logopedic assistance), special training to develop skills for independent living in the community, etc.

 

The project "Social services for people with disabilities to support confidence building measures between both banks of the Dniester River" is implemented by the “Keystone Moldova” Association in partnership with the Alliance of Organizations for People with Disabilities from Moldova, the “OSORC” Rehabilitation and Consulting Center, Ministry of Health, Labour and Social Protection and funded by the European Union. The total cost of the project is 559,968.45 Euro, from which 80% are provided by the European Union and 20% represents the contribution of the implementing partners and the “IM Swedish Development Partner”.
