A New Biennial Collaborative Agreement signed between Republic of Moldova and World Health Organization

On May 26th, the Minister of Health, Labour and Social Protection, Viorica Dumbraveanu and WHO Regional Director for Europe, Dr. Hans Henri P. Kluge have signed during an online ceremony, the Biennial Collaborative Agreement between the Ministry of Health, Labour and Social Protection of Republic of Moldova and the Regional Office for Europe of the World Health Organization.

 

The agreed priorities in the collaboration programme follow the guidelines of the WHO’s Thirteenth General Programme of Work, 2019–2023 and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Agreement aims to support Republic of Moldova in maximizing the opportunities for promoting population health and reducing health inequities, by taking an intersectoral, health-in-all-policies approach, which emphasizes the need to improve overall governance for health. 

 

Among the priorities mentioned in the Agreement for the following years, there are: improved access to quality essential health services, improved availability of essential medicines, vaccines, diagnostics and devices for primary health care, country health emergency preparedness strengthened, strengthened country capacity in data and innovation and health and well-being realized through Health in all policies and healthy settings interventions.

 

‘The accord is based on the Ministry’s outlined priorities regarding healthcare consolidation in Republic of Moldova, the National Health Strategy being an important part we are working on approving and implementing. We are thankful to the World Health Organization for their support and expertise, especially in relation to the prevention and control of the COVID-19 pandemic’, declared Viorica Dumbraveanu.

 

Dr. Hans Henri P. Kluge has mentioned that ‘The current pandemic has warned us of the importance of preparing for emergency situations and consolidating our general capacity as per the International Health Regulations. I would like to confirm the continuous support our Regional Office will offer to improve the health system, by putting at your disposal the WHO´s expertise’.

 

Republic of Moldova has become a member of WHO on May 4th,1992. The collaboration is stipulated in the Basic Agreement for the establishment of technical advisory cooperation relations between the Republic of Moldova and the World Health Organization which was ratified on July 21st, 1994. The support is regulated by biennial collaborative agreements, signed by the Regional Office for Europe of WHO and the Ministry of Health, Labour and Social Protection.
